Lady Olivia Sheridan has loved Lord Damien for most of her life. On the eve of their wedding, Damien is accused of fathering another woman's baby and forced to fight a duel. Injured in the duel, Damien is brought back to the house to recover. But Olivia learns that he has a price on his head and unless she protects him, he will have survived the duel only to be murdered later. Knowing that the only way to save him is to get him away from the country, she puts him on one of her father's ships.
Four years have passed and Olivia is now running her father's shipping business as well as Damien's holdings because she can't bring herself to tell his family of his death. She soon learns that Damien is not dead and is determined to make her pay for putting him on that ship.
Can Olivia make Damien see that what she did was for his protection or will he have his revenge?
I really liked this story. It was different from the stories that I normally read and was a nice change of pace. This was a couple that had already found love and then were torn apart. He blames her for being sent away, while she feels it was the only thing she could do at the time to save his life. Most of the story was showing them finding their way back to each other and learning to trust again.
This was my first by the author and I will definitely be looking for more of her work.
