Outlaw Hearts by Rosanne Bittner

Miranda Hayes has lost her whole family. The latest, her father, was killed by a band of rebel raiders. So when she comes across Jake Harkner and learns that he is a wanted criminal, she shoots him before he can hurt anyone else. She never imagined that he would turn up at her home and need medical attention.

Running after being shot, Jake comes across a home where he intends to find help for his wounds. Learning it is the home of the woman that shot him comes as a surprise. But learning she is willing to help him is an even bigger surprise.
As they spend time together. Miranda learns why Jake turned to a life of crime. She is falling in love with him, but is she willing to give him up when his body is healed?

Loved, loved, loved it!! Learning that there will be at least three books in this series makes it even better. This story takes us through about 20 years of Miranda and Jake's lives, ending when their children have just reached adulthood. Books 2 and 3 continue with the lives of Miranda and Jake and their extended family. I'm imagining it will be similar to Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series in which we follow the lives of the H/H as they get older and experience more life.

I always like a good western and I was not disappointed by my first book by Bittner. I like that it covered so much of their lives because so often we only get to see the courtship and wedding (sometimes not even that) of a couple. I am looking forward to reading the next two books (maybe more) in the series.
