The Wayward One by Danelle Harmon

The Wayward One by Danelle Harmon

This is book 5 in the de Montfort Brothers series.

Irish Captain Ruaidri O'Devir is on a mission to get a new explosive and deliver it to John Adams to help in the war effort against England. Planning to abduct the inventor of the explosive, Ruaidri finds the inventor's sister almost thrown in his path and decides to take her instead. What better way to get the man to deliver the goods to him than to have him exchanged the merchandise for his beloved sister? He didn't count on falling in love with her...

Lady Nerissa de Montforte has lived a sheltered life under the careful watch of her protective older brothers. After the initial shock of being held captive, she finds that her journey is more of an adventure than anything else. Knowing that her brothers will eventually come after her, she decides to enjoy her time away from the ballrooms of London. Having been nursing a broken heart, she never imagined that another would make her heart beat faster. Knowing that Ruaidri is all wrong her her doesn't stop her from falling in love with him.

Can the Irish captain and the English lady overcome the many obstacles in front of them to find an everlasting love?

I absolutely loved this story!!! While this is the 5th book in the Montfort Brothers series, you will see many characters from Harmon's Heroes of the Sea series too. I have read all of the books in both series, but it was so long ago that I don't remember any of them... but having said that, after reading this one, I want to go back and read all the books in both series (now to find the time to do it)!

Ruaidri...where to start with him? Talk about a hero you want to take home with you, that would be Ruaidri! You have a man that survived being pressed in the English Navy, escaped and was able to make a name for himself. He was thought so highly by John Adams that he sent him on this important mission! He is almost too good to be true!

I really like Nerissa too. After grouping up with so many older brothers, she knows how to handle being around a ship load of men. Other women of her station would have been freaking out if they were put into a situation like this. She ended up making the best of the situation and finding a love that she had given up on.

Even though it took many years to get Nerissa's story, it was well worth the wait.  I'm hoping that Harmon has another series in the works that is just as good as her other two!! Regardless of what she does, I'm excited to see what she comes up with next!
